1. Rheingold's five digital literacies are attention, participation, collaboration, network awareness and critical consumption. Out of Rheingold's five digital literacies, attention and network awareness have appeared in my life constantly for the past month. Attention is the most important in my life and I have applied it to school, my internship, and my life in general. Rheingold explains how students will learn about a tool and if they lose attention to it then they will most likely never use it again. In contrast, if the tool seems to be very significant, then the student will most likely use it in their everyday lives or projects. For example, I have learned about a great deal of tools in this class and I have applied them to other class projects because I found them to be extremely useful. Therefore, when Dr. Calloway would demonstrate how to use them, I paid close attention and I learned how to take advantage of them. Network awareness is the next important literacy that has appeared in my life for the past month. I have quickly learned how one can leverage off social media and bring awareness to significant topics in the world. I used social media and my network to bring awareness of suicide through a blog post that I wrote on a blog site and it gained an amount of attention that I wasn’t expecting. It definitely did not go viral, but I’m sure if I would marketed it more than it would have.
2. One of the stills that I used in my movie is the squirrel in the tree. The squirrel goes in conjunction with the rest of the video because the entire video is mainly wildlife. The colors absolutely are vivid and the green tree leaves stand out for the most part.
3. The kimbara music I first used is very alive and almost pop like. It makes the video with the butterfly seem a bit cartoonish in a sense which is a huge contrast to the Beethoven music I used for the end of the clip. The Beethoven music is a lot more serious and is sounds crispier than the pop music I used for the first clip. Also the fade in for the Beethoven music is a lot smoother than the fade in I did for the kimbara. I used a slow fade out from the kimbara to Beethoven so it wouldn’t throw the viewer off too much.
5. A great way to improve relationships in an online, ubiquitous computing world is not so much about the technology but a person’s perception. A great place to begin is with one’s self and then see how they can use technology in their own advantage. The truth is that many people perceive everything online in a negative way because there is rarely any emotion behind words to the raw viewer. When people can begin to be happy with themselves, they can benefit from technology significantly by using it as another means to stay connected and display the way they feel towards one another.
